The Industry Animal Welfare Standards for Livestock Processing Establishments Preparing Meat for Human Consumption are available via the Australian Livestock Processing Industry Animal Welfare Certification System (AAWCS).
AAWCS was established in 2013 and is an initiative of the Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC). It is an independently-audited certification program used by livestock processors to demonstrate compliance with the industry best practice animal welfare standards from receival of livestock, to the point of humane processing.

Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Livestock at Processing Facilities and Establishments are under way, with drafting of new S&G in progress. An informal initial consultation phase with targeted stakeholders on the drafting is being planned, after which the drafting will be subject to public consultation impact assessment.
The state and territory governments are responsible for the regulation of animal welfare in Australia. Each state and territory has an Animal Welfare Act outlining their animal welfare legislation.
